Jonas A. Jacobson
Partner and Founder Jonas Jacobson is a venerable environmental leader with over 15 years of experience shaping policy in Maryland’s state and local agencies. A Daily Record’s 2024 Lobbying & Government Affairs Power List who’s who, he has held pivotal roles at the Maryland Department of the Environment, including Deputy Secretary, Director of Waste Management Administration, and Legislative Liaison. His tenure was marked by significant legislative successes, such as the Brownfields Reform Act, electronic recycling initiatives, and the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Act — demonstrating his commitment to sustainable development.
One of Jonas’s most noted environmental successes was legislation he spearheaded that created Maryland’s Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP). Maryland’s VCP, or Brownfields Program, has resulted in the redevelopment of blighted properties all over Maryland. Projects like Canton Crossing, McHenry Row, and Baltimore Peninsula have come to fruition as a direct result of the VCP legislation that Jonas drafted and successfully advocated through the legislative process.
In addition to his environmental work, Jonas served as a senior advisor to former Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith and directed the County’s Department of Environmental Protection. His extensive background in government relations includes his time as Senior Government Relations Representative for Constellation Energy Group, where he was part of the lobbying team that championed electric deregulation in Maryland. He also represented the Maryland Chamber of Commerce as a lobbyist.
Jonas holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a Bachelor’s degree from Towson University. He is currently the President of the Towson University Alumni Association and a former President of the Howard County Conservancy Board of Trustees.
